I absolutely loved Monster Hunter International and Monster Hunter Vendetta. This entry in the series was no different. Monster Hunter Alpha focuses more on Earl Harbinger, who in my opinion was one of the most interesting characters in the previous books, we get more back story on Earl. We learn how he tamed his beast and just how it all began. This is a little bit different than the previous books in the series because it focuses almost predominantly on werewolves as the threat as opposed to the all powerful Old Ones trying to break through and it also doesn’t feature the familiar MHI team. This book can be read on its own and be an exceptionally enjoyable and rewarding read, or if you’ve already read the other books in the series and can’t wait for the next book (hopefully focusing on Agent Franks), then you’ll notice the building of a far greater story that hasn’t taken shape yet but has been hinted at by different events/prophecies from all three books combined. Another stellar installment from a man who has quickly become my favorite author, it is definitely my favorite read of the year so far.
