Hello again my friends. Halloween is just a couple of weeks away so I would like to give you an interesting exercise to do. Regardless of your artistic capabilities (painting, film, photography, writing, etc.), I would like to give you an exercise that is quite related to the season. It’s not the easiest thing to do but it can be done with any amalgamation of things.
Create a horror piece within your medium involving a trick or treater. It’s Halloween and fear is a base emotion so I decided why not put this challenge to you. You can make the trick or treater the villain, victim, or hero. It can be about a child getting lost, abducted, or being creeped out by a specific house. Horror comes in all shapes and forms; it’s up to you to determine what the horror for this story should be. Are you a parent, write the story from the point of view of a parent taking their kid trick or treating.
What’s scary? The best way to decide this is to find out what scares you, what things make you a little nervous and what makes you look at into the darkness and try to comfort yourself in the light. Who should tell the story? Should it have a happy ending? All these are things for you to determine for yourselves. If you should decide to do this challenge, please post your work or a link to said work in the comments to this blog so I experience the horrors you’ve created. I expect you to do this exercise us Ms. Divoe (you know who you are).
As for the rest of you good luck imagining and breathing life into that imagination, who knows before it’s all over you may have to check under the bed, and in the closet and don’t forget the nightlight in the corner of the room.
